What to do with my Canadian money
I am in San Diego..have quite a lot of Canadian money we brought back from our last trip.
?? Can I take to any bank here for exchange?
We will be in Buffalo NY in May..would that be a better place to cash it in?..if so, at a regular bank. Thanks

Keep it. While you are in Buffalo you may end up in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Agree with wow, I have about $160 in Canadian money, my incentive to return. Cannot change it in just any bank, I am in Arkansas ,of course, they thought it was 'play money'!

Almost any bank in my area will change it for you. Must depend on location.
You could always buy Hockey tickets...and hope that they actually play next season!

Maybe not "any bank" but you need a bank that offers foreign currency exchange services. You will loose money changing it back certainly. Better to hold on to it or sell it to a friend or coworker going to Canada soon.

Time to plan your next trip to Canada!
Or maybe Mexico. When I was in Cancun, the stores posted sale prices in pesos, US$ and Can$. The Canadians had a better exchange rate because the price usually said "$20 US or Canadian".

I carried some of that Canadian money back with me from a college trip to Toronto. I couldn't stand looking at images of British Royalty on it and got rid of it!

Jor, what's wrong with British Royalty? Though I'm American, I find them to be fascinating people.
To the original poster, if you don't want that Canadian money, you could mail it to me!

Hold on to it. As the US dollar continues to devalue, the Canadian dollar is actually getting stronger.

I agree with wow - Niagara Falls, Ont is 20 minutes north of Buffalo and you may end up going there for whatever reason. If you don't end up spending any/all of it, you can always go to Duty Free next to the Peace Bridge and exchange it.

Save it for your upcoming trip to buffalo and use as suggested by other posters. Also, you will find a number of restaurants and bars in the Buffalo area will take Canadian money "at par" to attract canadian vistors. Your $1.00 canadian, will be accepted as $1.00 US.
You always lose something when exchanging it, so as the Canadian dollar stregthens, your better off just using it.

Thanks for the advice. Would love to go to the casino in Niagara Falls or visit Ontario but 91 year old step- mom is reason for visit...so we can't do things like that. (I would love it)

Can you possibly get away for a short while late in the evening or very early in the morning? You can go over the Peace Bridge and play the slots at the Ft. Erie Race Track (not huge like the casinos), or do a little shopping at the duty free. At the very least, just change your money back.
If you shop at the duty free, you can bring back up to $200 worth of merchandise under 24 hours. Check out
